The nations of the period have been researched to a degree beyond what we’ve ever seen in a game. Everything about this game is meticulous, from the political to military and economic systems that all closely model how they worked historically. It’s also the most balanced and deep strategy game ever designed. In fact, for the first time since I was at university and in the habit of putting off writing essays that I had three months to do for the night before they were due, I have found myself going completely without sleep.įor the first time since Civilization 2, I actually lost so much time playing this game that the sun came up, and I hadn’t realised that it actually set the day before.Įuropa Universalis IV is Paradox Development Studio’s most refined, rich and creative game to date. I just feel that EU4 offers so much more in a single play through.For the past week my sleep has been badly affected. I love those games, or at least the memory of them. Please remember I am not doing down the Civilization games. Hell, EU4 is the sort of game I dreamed of playing back when I was playing Civ 2.the fulfilment of that abstract wish that I could do more with my empire.get down to the nitty gritty so to speak. I LOVE Civilization, Civilization 2 was a game I played extremely heavily in the mid to late 1990s (before I switched it out for Alpha Centauri) and I've loyally purchased every edition of the game since. My thoughts about this crystallised as I was watching the announcement trailer for the new Civilization. I'm playing a new session of EU4, this time I am playing Cusco and making a run at the sun god achievement, yet I feel pressed to verbalise my thoughts on my biggest gripe regarding this game.
